Why use text-based terminals as stations instead of full-fledged PCs?

Using LOW-COST, text-based terminals hooked up via COM ports:

  • Affordable POS Software with low licensing costs.

  • Our software provides the most "bang for the buck" by using a single 386+ IBM-compatible PC running DOS or Windows 95 to control up to 4 terminals via COM ports. More terminals can easily be supported with additional hardware.

  • Lowers cost by eliminating unused PC components, network cards, and expensive network and OS software for the PC (a terminal costs around US$350, compared to a complete PC which costs around US$1000). Each terminal also consumes significantly less power than a full PC.

  • Ensures higher reliability due to fewer hardware failures (i.e., hard disk crashes, power supply failures, etc.) and a lower power consumption.

  • Increases productivity by utilizing a text-based windowed environment. This eliminates the additional processing associated with graphic-intensive displays (i.e., Windows 95).
